Defi BF Series Gauges: review |

Many gauges look good while sitting in a booth during a car show, but the real test of a gauge¡¯s quality is on the world¡¯s tracks and twisty roads. In the demanding world of true high performance driving the gauges that simply look good are quickly separated from the gauges that work well.
In the real world we don't have time to look at a gauge and try to decipher what it is trying to tell us, that corner is coming up quick at 100mph, you have a fraction of a second to find out what you need to know. The last thing you need is a blinding indiglo gauge staring you in the face with a background so brightly lit the indicator needle has all but disappeared.
Defi understands the demands of the true enthusiasts and caters their latest gauges to their needs. Clear, concise dials, backlit with white numerals and a red needle indicator, there is little confusion about what you are seeing, your brain comprehends what it is seeing in an instant and you can get your eyes back on the road where they belong.
The Defi BF series gauges include most of the popular features found in their competitors but take the features to the next level as well as include some features unique only to the BF series. Like many other gauges, the Defi BF series gauges feature a peak/hold feature and replay, but unlike many gauge manufacturers who utilize a relatively short playback memory, the Defi gauges feature a full 3 minutes of playback. This shows the true intention of the designers at Defi, they were looking at more than just a single pass down a drag strip but wanted to accommodate those who like to spend time on the world¡¯s race tracks where a longer recording time would be useful. In addition to the 3 minute playback the Defi gauges also include the requisite warning function, setting off a flashing red led on the gauge face once the gauge exceeds a pre-determined point set by the user.

Forever mindful of design trends, the BF series gauges feature a blackout mode when the car is turned off. Rather than see a gauge just sitting idle, when the car is turned off all BF series gauges appear to be a blank black face, and upon start-up and shut-down they enter into a self-test mode which is sure to impress the kids at the local meets.

Installation of the BF series gauges is nearly painless, needing only power connections and a connection to a source to monitor vehicle lighting. Unlike most gauges where one brightness level is all you will get, the Defi BF series gauges utilize a system where there are 5 brightness settings for day use and 5 settings for nighttime use to suit your needs and reduce eye fatigue.
Unlike past gauges where each gauge had its own controls built into the face, the Defi BF series gauges make use of the Defi Control Unit II. The Control Unit II allows the control, playback, and other various functions of all gauges from one module, the days of going from gauge to gauge setting each one up are long gone.
